Programme of June 9th visits.

The visit to the Strasbourg CHU logistics platform will take place between 9:00 and 12:30. Visitors will be divided into smaller groups and, working in rotation, the focus will be on each of the following themes:

Central store and RFID.

Orders are prepared at the store using voice picking and hands-free kits. In order to guarantee adaptability and compatibility with the various distribution systems used throughout the hospitals, a single type of container is used to transfer items between the platform and the care units. This trolley and the lorries are traced using RFID chips. The system provides reliable information about the status of scheduled routes and their location, and in particular it reduces the risk of human error when loading the lorries. RFID will also be used as a source of traceability information when cleaning the trolleys, interfacing with the future washing tunnel.

Pharmacy.

Pharmaceutical products are presented in a number of formats, from pallet-type containers to the individual drug. This huge variety means we need to use different procedures and different container supports for each. As regards the numbers of items handled, we have 3400 in store and 16000 out of store. Overall management has been designed so as to allow traceability and minimise the risk of error as much as possible. Systems such as voice picking, 1D and 2D barcodes and conveyors with a pre-packing function ensures a good balance between efficiency and compliance with the regulations that govern all pharmacies.

Central food preparation unit.

The central kitchen delivers meals for all short-stay and long-stay patients at the Strasbourg University Hospitals, meaning an average of 2500 clients a day or 2.5 million meals every year. Using various criteria it can provide 60 different diets or meal variations, available within 6 hours, every day of the week. A full range of systems has been put in place, from production, to packaging and distribution, to traceability, in order to guarantee the meals comply with all current health and safety regulations.
